23 Jan: Introduction to YAs

(Rescheduled post)

Hello to all!

It's the BEGINNING OF A NEW YEAR and some of our juniors have joined our chapter to become YAs like us! The first activity with our new additions on 23rd was mainly to welcome the new YAs and also give them an introduction to what they can expect. :)

Ice breakers were skipped, since we've already known one another beforehand~ and we started off straight away with the activities in lined for the day.

We started off with a mini "goal-setting" session, in which we have to reflect on our motivation in being a YA, or wishes for the chapter in 2013 or anything related. All in a ~slightly~ different manner. Did you expect big pieces of paper and markers? Nope :) We decided on puzzle pieces! Everyone was given a little puzzle piece each, and we were to pen down our thoughts in our own special way, and also decorate them.

Moving on to the next activity, it was the "Tag Team Game". We all sat down in a circle and were supposed to share just about the strengths we think we have. However, as we wanted to get know one another better, we extended the sharing and asked about more things like something special about us that nobody knew, our MBTI personality types, personal strengths and weaknesses of ourselves/ the person beside us, etc. :)

With the strengths of ourselves and those that each of us commended of one other YA gathered, we then pieced them all together and came up with a girl we hope could represent one whom we all aspire to be. We later tried to pair the traits to certain physical characteristics and drew it out on paper (although it looked pretty weird haha) and came up with a storyline for her. To summarise, we had a superhero story! Guess we all have that little hero in us that lives on forever. :)

You get to imagine for yourself how we drew our superhero. :)

To end off, the Y6s gave the Y5s a formal introduction to YAs in DHS, a little more about what we will do, some administrative matters as well as the role that we had to play as a YA. :)

Each puzzle piece was individually designed and put together at the end, showing how each and everyone of us contributes to part of the chapter journey we all share and walk on. :) The complete puzzle will be hung up one day when our cupboard is ready for use as a reminder for us every time. And with the traits we aspire to have in mind, may we all improve together and bring our chapter to greater heights hand-in-hand!
