20 January 2016 - Hike Recce

Hi all!

For the past few weeks, the YAs have been returning to DHSCOY to watch over the Year 1 Orientation Preparation, hence there have not been any Chapter activities since the start of the school year. Now that the Year 1 CCA Orientation has ended, we will be focussing more on our own Chapter activities again. :)

This week, the YAs went to the Southern Ridges to do a reconnaissance for the upcoming Hike which we will be planning for the HQ YAs. The Southern Ridges is a trail that connecting parks along the southern ridge of Singapore, including Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, Hort Park, Labrador Nature Reserve, and Kent Ridge Park.

Since we were only planning to cover certain parts of the Southern Ridges, our trail started off from Harbourfront MRT station (near Mount Faber Park), and ended off at the entrance of Hort Park. The trail also included the Forest Walk, Henderson Waves, Alexandra Arch, and a Terrace Garden, among others. Along the way, we noted empty areas, special routes and precautions, and thought of possible activities for the actual hike.

While the main objective of this activity was to help us plan for the Hike in March, for many of us, it was also a great time for us to rest and relax, take our minds off schoolwork and other commitments, and bond together as a chapter. Additionally, it was also the first time at the Southern Ridges for most of us, and this definitely provided us with greater insights and appreciation of Singapore as a City-in-a-Garden despite its small size.
