About

We are a group of Young Adults (YAs) in Singapore who have graduated from the Dunman High Girl Guides Company. We are now embarking on starting up a new chapter in the school to explore the possibilities in the empowerment of girls. :)

26 Apr: Windsurfing crash course!

Last Saturday, the YAs went for a windsurfing crash course as a chapter initiative! Before the course started, we were all nervous about windsurfing as we will be on our own on the surfing boards, unlike kayaking where we have partners. We were first given an introduction to the different parts of the board and the directions to surf. (as seen in the picture below).

Next, we practiced the techniques on a makeshift board and sail before we did actual windsurfing in the sea.

we love windsurfing! :)

Windsurfing at sea was much harder than what we tried on land as some of us faced difficulties controlling the sail to travel in the direction intended (and ended up in falling into the sea, drinking salty seawater HAHA). The crash course was a short one but the YAs definitely had fun and have picked up new skills from this session! :)

5 Apr: We built a playground!

On Saturday, we had a pioneering session in school. But this time round, it was a little more special because we invited external YAs to join in the fun!  We were split into 3 groups to build a See-Saw, Slide and Kim’s Gym respectively. With the three structures, we built our own playground! :)
moving logistics for pioneering
Although it rained in the morning, it did not dampen our mood. We carried out the activity at the open space outside our library, and it was as fun as it would be if it were to be carried out in the field. Before the actual building, we revised our lashes and also shared with our fellow YAs on some of the “tips” we usually used to tie our structures.

It was really fun; especially when we finished tying the structures as we started to interact more with each other while trying out the structures we built. After we built our playground, we get to play with the structures we built. We were all really proud of our structures and we took a lot of photos with them.

Group 3 loves their slide and took another photo ;)

This pioneering session was different from the previous ones we had; probably because of the new addition of external YAs. Through this session, we have made new friends and exchanged lashing skills with the external YAs. I would not have minded if there was another session like this!
