14 August: Outdoor Cooking

We had our first outdoor cooking as YA chapter today! It has been a while since we last practiced our fire lighting skills and this activity had definitely helped us revise and improve on our fire lighting.

We split ourselves into two teams, one in charge of the fire and another in charge of food preparation. While the team was preparing the food, the fire team dug up two pits for the fire.

In each pit, we arranged the kindling in an arrangement of a wigwam, with 木麻黃 in the middle of the twigs. Next, we lighted the木麻黃 which will spread the fire to the twigs.

We fed more twigs and after a while, we had our fire ready for cooking! We decided to switch to amber cooking so as to reduce the amount of smoke.

The outdoor cooking this time was slightly different as we decided not to cook our traditional instant noodles. Instead, we explored different types of food and tried a few new recipes. One of the most interesting recipes we had was cooking bananas or apples marshmallows, chocolate chips and raisins in the middle. Our food turned out well, much as we expected! :)

Hot quick banana boat!
Baked apples on the grill :P
We had a great time bonding through food as a chapter as well as with the guiders. Looking for the next cooking session two weeks later! ;)

31 July: Traditional Games

Hello!

On Wednesday, the YAs decided to play traditional games and we chose to play 绳桥, also know as monkey bridge.

Firstly, we gathered to learn how to build a monkey bridge from Xue Qi - who was from the performance comm during CCA orientation. (:
Tse Puay and Shanice working on the first A-frame!
Xiao Qi and Yi Min tying a diagonal lash
After one hour, we are done with our structure and we learnt how to cross a monkey bridge correctly! It is really important to know how to support the structure properly such that no one gets injured (:

After a few round of crossing the monkey bridge, we had a mini impromptu PT! We did planking, pumping and sit ups to check if our fitness level has deteriorated haha ;)

Yeap, that's all for our skills training. Can't wait for outdoor cooking during T3W7's activity! :D
