Happy World Thinking Day 2014!

Hi all!

on the 20th of February, we had our Thinking Day celebrations in school. A contingent was formed by the Guides and YAs, together with the Scouts and Ventures (who are celebrating Founder's Day) in the morning during flag raising. During flag raising, more information on Founder's Day and Thinking Day was shared with the school by our guides and scouts.

On the 23rd of February, some of the YAs helped out with the World Thinking Day celebration held at Changkat Changi Secondary School. (:

19 Feb: Anchorage practice

Today, we practiced anchorage, using the 2-1 picket method instead of the usual 3-2-1 picket method. Anchorage serves to stabilize a structure, especially those of larger scale. We built a frame and tried to incorporate the trefoil into the frame.

It was our first time building a frame with a 'trefoil' so the structure did not work out at first. However, I am glad that we managed to fix the problem by changing some part of the frame and we all had fun! :)

UPDATES!

Hi everyone!

It has been awhile since this space was updated. So, let's see what the YAs have been doing recently!

29/01/14: Introduction to YAs + CNY celebration
This year, we have 11 year 5s joining YAs! We had an introduction session with them and during which, we share our chapter vision and other information regarding our chapter and played games to bond the year 5s and 6s! After the introduction session, the YAs has their CNY celebration dinner at Sukiya. (:

05/02/14: Skills Training: Fireman's chair, vertical rope and PT

The YAs tried tying and transporting people on a fireman's chair. The fireman's chair know is a rescue knot which is capable of supporting a person's body while he/she is lowered to safety.

Using the rope, we also managed to tie the vertical rope which hung from the 2nd level.

12/02/14: Skills Training: Campfire & Kerosene lamp

The year 7s, Cassandra and Chai Ning, came back to teach us how to use a kerosene lamp and how to set up a campfire pit. During this session, we got to know the different parts of a kerosene lamp and things to take note of while lighting a kerosene lamp! We also got to try building our own campfire pit using some leftover firewood. (: The skills learnt are extremely important and helpful to the YAs as we help the year 7s plan our 46th anniversary campfire this year! Thank you year 7s! ^^

14/02/14: Pioneering session for JH guides

The YAs planned a pioneering session for the junior high guides on Friday. The guides were split into 6 groups and each group had to build a gateway/tower/bridge.

The purpose of this activity is to:
1) allow all guides to participate in a pioneering project
2) allow the guides to revise and practice their pioneering lashes
3) provide the year 3s and 4s with leadership opportunities as they guide their group through the activity.

The pioneering session ended with each group doing a group cheer. Hopefully the guides enjoyed this session and managed to take away a few pointers on pioneering! :)

On a side note, 6 MORE DAYS TO WORLD THINKING DAY! :)
