12 Mar: Basket weaving!

We did ‘basket weaving’ for initiatives this week! :) It is not exactly a basket, as we did not use rattan. Instead, we used cardboard, cotton twine and coloured strings to make one. Some of us used the provided template to trace out the shape of our ‘basket’ while some of us were more adventurous and drew our own shapes. After cutting out the template, cotton twine and coloured string are used to go round the cardboard.

Though this may sound too easy, in reality it is definitely not! There were difficulty faced in the drawing and stringing the basket part. This process required lots of patience and creativity. Through this initiative, as we sat down in a cosy circle doing our D-I-Ys, we also bonded as a chapter, as we chatted about common topics.
This initiative has honed our craft skills and taught us how to make use of recycled items to turn it into something so aesthetically appealing and useful at the same time. After initiatives, as we still had some time, we did a little Physical Training, to keep our bodies in shape. We did planking and crunches. The interesting part is that we got to stop doing the individual exercises after a song has finished playing. Finally, we ended off with kallang-wave pumping. This jihe was really fun as we ended the term with getting to learn an invaluable DIY skill.

Happy March Holidays~~ :) All the best to the Year 6s for your March CTs! :)

1 Mar: AGM and Induction '14

Yesterday, the year5s had the long awaited YAs Induction! They were all very excited to go to HQ and be enrolled as official YAs. (:

Excited YAs-to-be on the way to HQ!
First, we had ice breaker games where we had to answer one of the following questions: What’s your most memorable moment as a guide? Why do you want to join YAs? What’s your favorite cartoon character? And almost everyone mentioned PLTC as their most memorable moment in terms of the friendships forged and hardships went together :)  We indeed had a lot of fun together and Once a Guide, Forever a Guide, so we joined YAs together to continue our friendships forged in Guides! We then had presentations from the YABC to give us more information about YAs, GGS and WAGGGS, which were very informative indeed.

WE LOVE YAs <3
We made many new friends and fellow YAs as well! We were split into groups with interesting discussion topics like “What does your dream bedroom look like?” and “What is one thing you have never done before but wish you did?” through which we knew more about each other. We ended off with a very fun game of human knot where we all got tangled up~ The meaningful buddy system implemented also allowed us the chance of knowing a senior from another chapter personally and keeping in touch so that we can get help when we need.
1st and 3rd batch of DHSYAs
2nd and 3rd batch of DHSYAs
Lastly, we had the YAs induction and the year5s are official YAs now! Looking forward to more great times spent together, and more memorable moments created in the future years to come <3
