About

We are a group of Young Adults (YAs) in Singapore who have graduated from the Dunman High Girl Guides Company. We are now embarking on starting up a new chapter in the school to explore the possibilities in the empowerment of girls. :)

Updates! and....Farewell?

Over the month of May and June, the guides and YAs were busy preparing for their 46th Anniversary Campfire which is going to take place in July!:) I am pretty sure all the guides and YAs are very excited for the campfire, are you? :)

In addition, the second batch of YAs have stepped down from their duties and DHSYA Chapter is now led by the third batch of YAs who are fun-loving and cheerful girls! Do look forward to the future updates from our next secretary (including the post on PDP) :)

Before I end my last post on this 'online journal' of ours, lets have a throwback to June 2013 (:

I  remember one year ago, when we first stepped up into our YA roles, I believe all the YAs all felt uncertain and nervous about the future. After all, DHS YAs Chapter is still relatively new, and we were unsure about which direction we should follow, what should we do, and how to go about planning activities to reach our goal. Most of all, we were worried whether we would be able to keep up with the standards of the pioneer batch before us, who were all very passionate and driven individuals whom constantly strived to bring the chapter to greater heights.

And now one year later, we have step down from our roles, and our duties and responsibilities have come to an end. Looking back at the past one year when we stood together as a batch, it is really heartrending trip down the memory lane.

It seemed yesterday when we first stepped out, marched in front of the YAs at Guides HQ, and got our YA badges and congrats for joining YAs.

It seemed only yesterday when exchanged hugs from our seniors during PDP.
one of our first few activities: Traditional games
YA Camp 2013! :)

It seemed only yesterday when we planned our first 集合 as YAs and our first YA camp.

It was just yesterday when we attended PLTC 2014(Patrol Leader Training Camp for Dunman High guides and scouts) together as the planning committee, executed the activities that we had worked hard planning together, sang at the campfire together, and entertained each other with our jokes and laughter.

All these events that we went through together, all these experiences and insights we gained are special memories to me, and I do hope it is the same for all the YAs too. Of course, we made mistakes along the way, but every step taken and experience helped us grow as individuals and better leaders.

To the 43rd Batch of DHS Girl Guides / 2nd Batch of YAs:

I am really thankful to have experienced this last chapter of our guiding life in DHS with all of you because all of you made my guiding journey even more memorable. I hope we can continue to maintain our sisterhood and friendship or best, strengthen it!

Just like how every campfire ends, 'This is Good night, and not Goodbye', let's not forget the times we shared for our past 6 years of guiding and may our guiding spirit continue to grow stronger :)   As we reminisce these treasured memories, always remember the girls of yesterday who sang 'This is the Guiding light of mine, I'm going to let it shine~' with passion and warmth.

As the another chapter of our guiding story has come to an end, another chapter is about to begin. To the next batch of YAs, remember, the chapter is your pride and responsibility, and always 用心去做! We definitely have faith in you that you will bring the chapter to even greater heights! Remember the friendship that binds your batch together, because these are the people who will support you and see you through the tough times that lie ahead.

“It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.” It is time to take charge and write your own story.  Let your guiding spirit lead you on. 加油!! :)

Yours-in-Guiding,
Kuah Poh Kah
